RVY remark re New Years Event & WISE
[11 Jan 1998]

All someone has to do is find a New Years event from a few years ago and see what they were citing and compare. Big change.

Someone asked me in email about Scientology's New Year's event, if there
would be reason to do a transcript to the Net and I made some remarks.
This person suggested I post them to ARS so I am doing it.

---------------

I missed the first few minutes where, I was told, the coming LRH biography
was discussed. That would possibly be valuable, for the way they hype him.

[If someone has that section, let me know. Some of you know why I'm
interested. For those who don't, at one point I was to have been LRH's
biographer. And before the OSA-robo-drones say otherwise, it was so
reported in the Washington Post and the local San Luis Obispo paper after
after LRH's death.]

There are a couple of sections that would be valuable. There was one part
that I couldn't believe. Miscavige says they have a new way to measure
their success rate and that is by how upset the rabid dog press is - and
then there was this scene playing of mouths frothing, literally frothing
(much of the event was interplayed with a lot of computer-generated scenes
and pics) - and that that stat (the rabid press) was OUT THE ROOF! (And he
says this elatedly as a graph comes on the screen showing nearly
vertical.)

That's the entheta press graph and he's put this incredible spin on it.
It is actually quite brilliant of him, since the Scienos are being exposed
to 60 Min, NYTimes etc. How can they miss that? So DM (or someone gave him
the idea) turns it around and says it shows they are winning, which is
sort of like Pres. Johnson saying re Viet Nam, "The American dead is at
its highest ever, which proves how well we are doing!"

The difference is the Scientologists cheered.

You need to find that part.

There ARE a LOT of places and names of groups cited that are allegedly
using Scientology and it made me think of the Scandenavian Minister of
Defnese story, wondering how many are outright lies and how many are
serious twists on the truth, e.g., some Scientologist gives a talk to a
dozen workes at IBM and by the time the report makes it back to the field,
it says, "IBM is using Scientology!" That is very common. So the show
needs to be reviewed for these and these need to be posted to ARS for
people to track down. Lots of names of companies that the ARSCC (wdne)
needs to investigate.

There's not that much more. What is interesting is what is NOT on the
show: delivery. They talked about something like student points in the
mission network which is a so-what stat and omitted entirely the
completions in the US, the income, the number of OTs, clears, the well don
auditing hours etc etc etc. So what was not said is as important, if not
more so. All someone has to do is find a New Years event from a few years
ago and see what they were citing and compare. Big change. Most of what
they cite this year is overseas "expansion," places that will disappear in
a year or two - the way the big China boom announced a few years ago has
quietly disappeared.

In fact, that would be an exellent ARSCC (wdne) project for someone doing
his amends. (laugh) Go thru the back years and find the new places like
China that are announced. Let's preserve these new places, not that the
cult is going to last that long, but it might fit with what you want, to
know where they say they opened new places, a few years ago, and see if
ARS can find them today. Like China. Big big news and now just silence. I
suspect there are other places like that. Many places.

And to note what stats they promote each year and compare (not the amount)
the stats they use other years. They are not ones to make up a stat, like
inventing well done hours. Too many people know what they are. So they
have to find some climbing stat and then work up some story how it proves
expansion, which is exactly what they did with the entheta press stat.
