On March 22, 1956, a booklet entitled "BRAIN-WASHING, A Synthesis of the
Russian Textbook on Phychopolitics [sic]," was received for examination
from [BLACKED OUT] California, in which she reported that her husband,
[BLACKED OUT] had received this booklet through the mails and she wanted
the Federal Bureau of Investigation to have it. She was of the opinion
that her husband was affiliated with the Hubbard Dianetics Group.
This booklet has been photostated, a copy of which is being furnished to
the Central Research Section with the request that it be read and examined
and that this office be advised of the authenticity if known, of the
information contained therein. It is further suggested that it might be
used to good advantage in connection with the [BLACKED OUT] Program -
particularly in interviews with those individuals who are idealists and
became involved in the Communist movement primarily for that particular
reason.
The Bureau's analysis and comments of this booklet with respect to its
authenticity and possibly value in interviewing CP members will be
appreciated.
