[ADDRESS BLOCK BLACKED OUT]
Dear Miss [BLACKED OUT]
Your letter of February 4th has been received.
In response to your inquiry regarding Scientologists, the FBI is strictly
an investigative agency of the Federal Government and, as such, does not
make evaluations nor draw conclusions as to the character or integrity of
any individual, publication or organization. Please do not infer from my
inability to be of aid either that we do or do not have data in our files
regarding the subject of your inquiry.
Sincerely yours,

NOTE: Correspondent is not identifiable in Bufiles. She is probably
referring to a group which at one time was known as the Academy of
Scientology, founded by Ron Hubbard. In late 1962, officials of the Food
and Drug Administration raided Hubbard's headquarters in Washington, D.C.,
inasmuch as his club was misrepresenting claims as to what their
"machines" could do. Hubbard was described as being "hopelessly insane"
by his wife in suing him for divorce in 1951. (105-55601
