SUBJECT: _FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT REQUEST - William F. Peterson_
Enclosed herewith ia a request for access to information on the groups
Dianetics and Scientology and their founder, L. Ron Hubbard.
Pursuant to 28 CFR [symbol] 16.5 which took effect on March 1, 1973, the
head of the responsible division shall, within 10 working days, either
comply with or deny a request for records unless additional time is
required.
In cases where additional time is required the requester should be
notified of the reasons for the time extension, which should not exceed 10
additional working days. An extension of time in excess of 10 additional
working days requires the approval of the Deputy Attorney General.
If the request is denied, the requester should be informed that the denial
may be appealed within 30 days to the Attorney General, and that judicial
review will be thereafter available.
Copies of all acknowledgements and responses to the requester should be
forwarded to the Office of the Deputy Attorney General.
