Dear Mr. Hoover,
Several days ago I heard a news report on T.V. in which you said
there are subversive or communist inspired organizations in the
United States. That comment has prompted this letter.
I would like to know if the Hubbard Association of
Scientologists International or any of the names the organization
uses has a clean slate as far as the F.B.I. is concerned.
I became interested in this group last spring and I'm now
becoming a member. At that time it did not occur to me to
investigate it. My husband and I own a lar[end of word cut off]
[BLACKED OUT] and he is the [BLACKED OUT] of a corporation. He has
not been connected with this in any way and I should not like to
become connected with something that in the future may any way
damage our family, business or reputation.
From what I understand, the largest groups of scientologists are
in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Tucson. Most of the people
connect [sic] this certainly seem sincere, and I would not like
them to know that I would check their motives and activities. They
have accepted me so whole-heartedly.....but at the same time I
would like to know about them to releive [sic] any doubts I might
have concerning their methods.
The next meeting is on January 14, 1960 so I would greatly
appreciate a reply before then. As I said my husband and I would
have a great deal to lose if I in my young years make a wrong
choice after we have worked so hard, and then in my late years
regret it.
Very truly yours,
